On Friday, officers were at the CVS at 644 W. Putnam Ave. on an unrelated matter but detected the smell of marijuana as they prepared to leave the store, police said.
The manager pointed to a man who had just left as a possible suspect and officers found him in his Jeep Patriot in the parking lot, police said.
The man told officers he had a one-ounce bag of marijuana in his center console, police said.
Officers also discovered a large bag that contained six separate smaller bags of equal weight containing "gummy snacks" that officers suspected had been packaged for sale, police said. The gummy snacks weighed more than a kilogram, police said. Police were able to determine that the fruit snacks contained THC, the active ingredient in marijuana that gives it is narcotic affect, police said.
Charged with possession of marijuana over one kilogram with intent to sell, possession of more than four ounces of marijuana and possession of less than four ounces of marijuana was Charles Walters, 39, of Rensselaerville, N.Y. He posted $300 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
