GREENWICH, Conn. ? A man who fell off his boat while traveling alone in the waters off Greenwich was rescued by two fishermen.
The man, whose name and hometown were not released, was found at about 6:15 p.m. Monday drifting in Long Island Sound near Goose Island at the entrance to Cos Cob Harbor, Greenwich police Lt. Kraig Gray said.
The two fishermen said the man was disoriented, nearly unconscious and not wearing a flotation device, Gray said.
The man had been traveling by himself on his 32-foot Pursuit cabin cruiser when he fell into the water and could not hang on to his boat or get back on board. He had been treading water for about an hour and was able to reach the two fishermen, Gray said.
The man was so exhausted he could not be pulled from the water until Greenwich police marine patrols arrived. He was treated for exhaustion and hypothermia at Stamford Hospital and released, Gray said.
The boat ran aground on the west side of Goose Island and was towed to Beacon Point Marina. A safety inspection revealed no violations, Gray said.
