GREENWICH, Conn. Two employees with a combined 50-plus years of experience are retiring from the Greenwich Police Department, Chief James Heavey says.
Police Officer John Woodward, a New York native and graduate of New Rochelle High School, joined the department in December 1989. Wooodward worked in the patrol division and training section and was promoted to technician in July 2002.
Woodward was twice named the department's officer of the month. He won the award in 2006 for saving an elderly man from drowning at Beacon Point Marina and in 2010 for catching a boat burglar in Cos Cob, Heavey said in a press release.
"His expertise in all things related to tactics and firearms was greatly beneficial to the officers of the department," Heavey said.
Also retiring is Court Technician Joseph Ferrero, who joined the department in June 1981. In his 31 years with the force, Ferrero was a patrol officer, a car accident investigator and a youth officer. He also spent 14 years as an identification detective.
Ferrero will continue to work at the department as a special police officer.
Joe's diverse work experience and work ethic is of great value to the department," Heavey said.
