Christopher von Keyserling of Cos Cob was charged with fourth-degree sexual assault after he was arrested at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwich Town Hall by Greenwich police.
He was released $2,500 bond for a court date of Jan. 25.
Police did not release any other details involving the case or the allegations against von Keyserling. Police did not release his mugshot.
A well-known Republican, von Keyserling is a familiar face at town meetings and functions. His bio at the RTM website lists him as the chairman of District 8 and the district's delegate to the Community Development Advisory Committee.
His bio also lists his occupation as consigliore, but his LinkedIn profile says he is the CEO and owner of SRS Trans.
The arrest last week of another RTM member involves a totally separate case and investigation, said Greenwich Police Lt. Kraig Gray.
"There is no correlation between the recent arrests involving sex crimes in Greenwich," Gray said in a statement. "Each arrest stemmed from a separate allegation and investigation."
Last Thursday, Christopher N. Sandys, 46, was arrested and charged with one count of child pornography after officers discovered 750 images of child pornography on his computer, police said.
Sandys, who had also been a member of the Greenwich RTM, resigned from his position Monday.
According to the warrant, the investigation into Sandys began Aug. 31 when a state investigator accessed a "peer to peer" network where files are traded among individuals. The investigator downloaded 1,337 of suspected child pornography between Aug. 31 and Sept. 3 from the computer belonging to what they eventually found to be Sandys' IP address, police said.
Three of the images involved girls who were no more than 7 years old and possibly as young as 2 performing sex acts on men, according to police.
