"Bob has lived up to the Department’s vision to improve the quality of life within Greenwich while at the same time maintaining respect for individual rights and human dignity," said Chief of Police James Heavey. "We are fortunate that Bob will retain his affiliation with the Greenwich Police Department as a Special Police Officer. I wish Bob the best of luck in all his future endeavors."
Hansen served in the United States Marine Corp. before returning to Greenwich, where he was sworn in as a police officer in August of 1987. He graduated from the 205th Connecticut Municipal Police Training Council's Basic Police Academy.
Hanson was promoted to Accident Car Investigator in 1999 and served as Public Safety Dispatcher from 2002 to 2005.
He was a member of the Special Response Unit and the Scuba Team.
Hanson has received Chief Commendations for investigations and apprehensions of suspects from crimes ranging from burglaries to bank robberies.
The Chief of Police recognized Hanson in Feb. 2009 as the Officer of the Month for searching for an elderly woman with dementia and depression who had wandered off. He found her behind the bushes in a snow bank suffering from hypothermia.
Hansen also volunteered his personal time for years as the head coach for the department's sponsored Babe Ruth Baseball team.
Hanson is the son of Detective Hans P. Hansen, who served the Town of Greenwich for 21 years.
