Lieutenant Briggs was sworn in as a Greenwich Police Officer on Dec. 26, 1989 and is a graduate of the 222nd Class of the Connecticut Municipal Police Basic Police Academy.
During his GPD career, he served as a Patrol Officer, Marine Police Officer and Traffic Enforcement Officer before joining leadership ranks. While holding the position of Patrol Officer, he was selected to become a Field Training Officer, where he oversaw the initial training of many new police recruits.
Lieutenant Briggs was promoted to Sergeant in 2003 and chosen to lead the Greenwich Scuba Team and Greenwich Police Special Response Team Executive Officer (XO) – roles that earned him accolades for his planning and training abilities. He also attended numerous police training and certification courses in various police related specialties. He was promoted to Lieutenant March 26, 2005.
While receiving numerous departmental commendations for excellent police work and exemplary police service, Lieutenant Briggs also earned praise and letters of appreciation from the citizens of Greenwich.
A Greenwich native and graduate of Greenwich High School, Lieutenant Briggs attended the University of Colorado, where he earned B.A. in History.
“We are fortunate that Greenwich will not completely lose all of the knowledge and expertise that Lieutenant Briggs has developed over the years,” Police Chief Heavey said. “Brian has chosen to remain as a Special Police Officer and a reserve member of the Dive Team. We wish him the best of luck in this next stage of life.”
