"This is the second annual Police Day held at the Greenwich Police Department. It is held in conjunction with the national observance of Police Week, which includes a special memorial in Washington, D.C., to remember all officers lost in the line of duty," Police Chief James J. Heavey said in a statement.
"Many people don't know that the Greenwich Police Department has lost three officers in the line of duty. We will remember these officers and then have an open house so the public can visit their police station. Lots of interesting things to see and do, including a moon bounce, tours of the jail facility and demonstrations by our K-9 and other specialty units," Heavey said.
The event will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A variety of departmental vehicles and equipment will be on display. Residents can meet the men and women who are sworn to protect and serve the Greenwich Community
Operational demonstrations will be performed by the K-9 unit and other special teams.
There will be a bouncy castle on site for children, free hot dogs and more. The Greenwich Police Honor Guard and the Police Explorers will assist Cub Scouts with a special U.S. flag workshop.
Guided tours of the Greenwich Public Safety Complex will be given every half hour.
