Police stopped a vehicle in central Greenwich around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12 after an inquiry with the DMV showed that the vehicle had been suspended due to lack of insurance.

After the driver, 25-year-old Christina Harris, gave police consent to conduct a search, the front seat passenger, 20-year-old Jonathan Lucena, exited the vehicle.

During the search, police discovered a total of 17 gift and debit cards in the vehicle. Detectives on the scene were able to use a portable card reader on several of the magnetic strips of the cards and determined that the numbers in the strips did not match the numbers on the back of the cards. Police were then able to confirm that the cards had been re-encoded with another party’s stolen credit or debit card information.

Both Harris and Lucena were arrested and charged with the following:

  • Payment card theft
  • Identity theft in the third degree
  • Completion/Reproduction of payment card
  • Forgery in the third degree

Harris was also issued a misdemeanor summons for several motor vehicle violations.

Both subjects were released after posting $1,000 bond. Both are scheduled to appear at Stamford Superior Court on Wednesday, Dec. 26.
