Officers responded to a report of a driver stopped at a red light and slumped over in a vehicle at the busy West Putnam Avenue and East Weaver Street intersection at midnight on Sunday, Aug. 18, police said.
Police upon arriving determined the driver, Andrew Parker Mills, 24, of New York City fell asleep at the wheel and sat without moving through several light cycles.
While being interviewed officers reportedly observed Mills had red, glassy eyes and was unsteady on his feet, and they detected a strong odor associated with the consumption of alcoholic beverages coming from him, according to Greenwich Police.
Mills was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and failure to obey a traffic signal, police said.
He was unable to post bond and held at the Greenwich Police station and is due in court Tuesday, Sept. 3, according to police.
