Deria Mohamud, of Unionville, was arrested after police stopped him around 3 a.m. after seeing a "suspicious" vehicle driving down a dead-end street in Riverside at Chapel Lane, police said.
When an officer approached, Mohamud took off at a high rate of speed and continued to elude police through parts of Old Greenwich until officers saw him crash into the front lawn of a private residence, police said.
Police quickly uncovered that the vehicle had been stolen in Hartford and that Mohamud was in possession of a wallet stolen from the car’s owner, police said.
He was charged with two counts of larceny, engaging in a police pursuit, driving on a suspended license and reckless driving and is being held in police custody in lieu of $25,000 bail.
