GREENWICH, Conn. — The driver of a car that went off the Merritt Parkway near Stanwich Road in Greenwich had to be cut from the remains of his vehicle and hauled to safety Saturday afternoon, Greenwich firefighters said.
Engines 8 and 4 responded to a motor vehicle crash on the Merritt Parkway northbound near Stanwich Road.
The car had gone off the parkway and down an embankment, firefighters said.
Firefighters had to stabilize the car, use the Hurst tool to cut the roof off and then use ropes and a basket to bring the victim back up to the highway to safety, said a statement from fire officials.
The patient was then turned over to Greenwich EMS for care and transport to the hospital.
