GREENWICH, Conn. -- A downed tree knocked out power to a number customers and forced the closure of East Putnam Avenue for more than two hours Monday evening, according to Greenwich police.
The tree, which came down near the intersection of East Putnam Avenue and Old Church Road, knocked out the power when it fell over utility lines, according to a Tweet from the Greenwich Police Department.
The town's highway department responded to the scene and cleared the tree by 9:30 p.m., according to police, who reopened the road soon after.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. As of 10 p.m., more than 25 customers in Greenwich were still without power after the powerful thunderstorms.
