It was 27 years ago that Agosto, 27, a two-year veteran from Litchfield, was struck and killed on I-95 in Greenwich.
Agosto was assigned to Troop L, but was working with the Traffic Squad on I-95 because of Thanksgiving holiday traffic.
He had pulled his cruiser behind another trooper’s to assist with a motor vehicle stop. He was walking on the shoulder of the highway when he was struck from behind by a car that veered off the road, state police said.
The operator of the car had a diabetic condition, and shortly after the accident, was found to be suffering from hypoglycemia, a condition brought on by low blood sugar, state police said. The condition is known to cause dizziness, confusion, and blackouts.
Agosto’s death demonstrated the vulnerability of all troopers on the highway, state police said.Click here to follow Daily Voice Greenwich and receive free news updates.
