In all, 562 vehicle accidents occurred on Connecticut roads in 2013, up from the 410 investigated over the same weekend in 2012, State Police said in reporting traffic statistics from the busiest travel weekend of the year.
Accidents involving injuries increased from 59 in 2012 to 92 in 2013. Seatbelt arrests also saw a spike from last year, jumping from 85 in 2012 to 170 this year.
Other incidents saw significant decreases. Speeding arrests were down from 1,611 in 2012 to 1,134 in 2013. Drunken-driving arrests decreased from 62 last year to 43 this year; and hazardous moving arrests declined from 2,745 last year to 2,548 in 2013.
Only one fatal accident occurred in the state -- on I-84 near Hartford, according to CBS Connecticut. State Police responded to two fatal crashes over the same holiday weekend in 2012.
Overall, State Police responded to 10,426 calls for service over the Thanksgiving weekend.
