38-Year-Old Shot Overnight In Bridgeport's First Homicide Of 2020

Bridgeport Police are investigating the city's first homicide of 2020 following the shooting death of a man found lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds.

The unidentified 38-year-old victim was discovered after Bridgeport Police responded to a report of shots fired detected by Shotspotter sensors in the area of Remington Street around 1:31 a.m., Friday, Jan. 10, said Bridgeport Police Capt. Brian Fitzgerald.

When patrol officers were responding to the scene, dispatch also received several calls of shots fired and some reported a victim lying in the street, Fitzgerald said.

Officers located the man lying in the street suffering from several gunshot wounds, he added.

The victim was transported by medics to Bridgeport Hospital where he died, Fitzgerald said. 

Detectives are processing a crime scene on Remington Street and are actively pursuing leads. 

The victim’s identity will be released at a later time pending an autopsy.
