Sue Ann Jayes, 88, Girl Scouts Leader, Of Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. -- Sue Ann Borncamp Jayes, 88, died on Sept. 6, 2015.

She was born June 10, 1927, in Rochester, N.Y.

She graduated from the College of New Rochelle and joined the Girl Scouts of USA after being a longtime member and leader in college. 

While executive director of the Girl Scouts of Greenwich, she was instrumental in establishing a day sailing program for Mariner Scouts at the Old Greenwich Boat Club.

She graduated from Harvard/Radcliff Program of Business Administration and became a substitute teacher for Greenwich schools, eventually teaching business at J.M. Wright School in Stamford.

A descendant of Robert Coe, who settled in Stamford in 1660, she was involved in genealogy-docent and member of the Putnam Hill Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Officer of Israel Putnam House Association(Putnam Cottage/Knapp Tavern). 

Jayes was involved in Long Island Sound conservation projects, was chair of the Greenwich Point Committee, worked on the master plan to manage the usage of facilities at the Greenwich Point beach area, served as co-chair for the youth sailing program at the OG Boat Club, was a longtime member of Green & Clean and was a past president and treasurer of the Garden Club of Old Greenwich. 

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Wedgbury Jayes; her children, Elizabeth Jayes (Sandy Springs, Ga.) and Peter W. Jayes (Greenwich), her sister, Joan Borncamp Rak (Tucson, Ariz.), and two granddaughters, Skylar and Madison Jayes. 

A Mass pf Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at St. Catherine of Siena, 4 Riverside Ave., Riverside with recitation of the Rosary at 10:30 a.m. and Mass at 11 a.m..
