GREENWICH, Conn. - Mary Murphy Klein of Greenwich, former Stamford resident, died Sept. 28. She was 93.
Klein was born July 24, 1921, in Greenwich, to James and Delia (McNamara) Murphy. She attended St. Mary's Grammar School and later graduated from Greenwich High School, where she was the valedictorian of the Class of 1939. In 1942, she graduated from the Greenwich Hospital School of Nursing, again, valedictorian of her class. During World War II, she served as a lieutenant in the United States Army Nursing Corps, being deployed in Great Britain and France. On her return home, she became an industrial nurse with the Electrolux Company.
After her marriage she resided in Stamford with her family for 60 years. She later became a school nurse with the City of Stamford Public Schools, working at a range of sites, most notably Roxbury Elementary School. She was involved with the School Nurses' Association.
Klein is survived by her sons, Dr. Robert Klein (Deborah) of Wilbraham, Mass., Dr. Bruce Klein (Jennifer) and Peter Klein (Catherine); and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph.
Calling hours are Oct. 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home in Stamford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Oct. 11 at St. Bridget's Roman Catholic Church in Stamford, followed by interment in St. John's Cemetery.
