Herbert Egli, 83, Longtime Greenwich Resident

GREENWICH, Conn. - Herbert Egli, a Greenwich resident since 1963, died Friday, June 14. He was 83.

Egli was born May 19, 1930, in Berkeley, Calif. He attended public schools in Berkeley and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in economics. He served in the U.S. Army.

After his military service, he worked in financial positions for Cutter Laboratories and Magna Tools. He became chief financial officer of SCM Corp. until the company was sold to a British conglomerate.

Egli was a longtime member of Greenwich Country Club and the Retired Men's Association. He was also a member of the American Management Association and the Financial Executives Institute. After retirement, he served as treasurer of Greenwich Mews. He also directed a volunteer team that prepared individual income tax returns for town residents.

Egli is survived by his wife, Janice; son, Steven Egli of West Yarmouth, Mass.; sisters, Anne Matthew and Margaret Carson, of Walnut Creek, Calif.; and a brother, Albert EgIi of Minden, Nev. He was predeceased by his daughter Elizabeth; and brothers, August, Fred and John Egli.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at Second Congregational Church of Greenwich. The church is located at 139 E. Putnam Ave.
