Charlotte Schmidt-Fellner, 91, Formerly Of Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. – Charlotte Elizabeth Schmidt-Fellner, formerly of Greenwich, died Feb. 11 at Edgehill Assisted Living in Stamford. She was 91.

Schmidt-Fellner was born May 7, 1921, in Cass City, Mich., to Meredith B. and Virginia W. Auten. She graduated from Western College for Women in 1943 and then performed social work for the Red Cross in Chicago for several years.

She then attended Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City and worked as an executive secretary for Time Inc. for nine years. She was married to Alexander H. Schmidt-Fellner.

They lived in Riverside, where they raised three sons. Later in life, she became a Red Cross volunteer in Greenwich and helped run the Rummage Room for the First Congregational Church of Old Greenwich.

She moved to Edgehill in Stamford in 1997.

Schmidt-Fellner is survived by three sons, Peter A., of Darien, F. Blair, of Atlanta, and Mark C., of Old Greenwich; a brother, Charles Auten, of Cass City; a sister-in-law, Jeanne Auten, of Parrish, Fla.; and seven grandchildren, and five nieces and nephews.

Her husband died in 1995. She was also predeceased by a sister, Carolyn Auten; and a brother, Frederick Auten.

A service will be held at 3 p.m. Feb. 23 at First Congregational Church in Old Greenwich. Leo P. Gallagher and Son Funeral Home in Greenwich is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to First Congregational Church.
