Stein was born April 4, 1939, to Charles Francis Stein and Ethel Marquardt. He was a lifelong resident of Greenwich. He was a graduate of the Wright Technical School of Stamford. He completed boot camp at the Keel United States training center and went on to serve on the USS Furse DD/DDR 822 Destroyer The Sentinel of the Sea, from Dec. 29, 1958 to Dec. 29, 1962. He achieved the rank of E-5 BM2 petty officer second class, and served as ship’s electrician leader and gained a discharge. He continued his skill in electrical work, working as a freelance contractor and building manager. He belonged to the Greenwich Boating club, as well as the Byram Veterans Association.
Stein is survived by daughters, Janice Stein of Norwalk, Nancy Stein of Greenwich, Kathy Stein-Schlosser (Ken) of Greenwich, Karen Stein-Heller (Jeffrey) of Bridgeport; six grandchildren; and sister, Barbara Menamenn of Eastford. He was predeceased by his parents; and brother, Charles Stein.
Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 30 at the Castiglione Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, July 1 at Sacred Heart Church. Interment will follow the service in St. Johns Cemetery, Norwalk.
