A deli employee at the Stop & Shop in Glenville was arrested Friday night while allegedly attempting to cut a hole into the buildings roof to burglarize the store, police said.
Greenwich officers found Daniel Joseph Martinez, 22, of 14 Hollow Wood Lane, Greenwich, hiding face down on top of an air conditioning unit at 11:30 p.m. He had a bag of tools with a mallet, roofing hammer, wires, pliers and a knife with him. Martinez allegedly cut a 2-foot by 2-foot hole into the roof to get into the store. Damage to the roof was estimated to be more than $1,500.
Martinez was arrested on charges of criminal attempt at burglary, possession of burglar tools and criminal mischief. He was released on a $15,000 bond and is due in court March 14.
