Woman Killed by Truck ID'd As a Nun

The pedestrian killed by a motor vehicle on West Putnam Avenue Friday has been identified as a nun from Virginia, Greenwich police report.

Olivia Corcuera Sulit, 65, of Ashburn, Va., was part of a ministry that helps new mothers, police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray said. Sulit, a widow and mother who became a nun later in life, had traveled to Greenwich last week as part of her work.

The accident occurred at 8:30 a.m. in the area of 702 W. Putnam Ave. Gray said police believe Sulit was walking north to south near a bus stop.

A black pickup truck driven by a 32-year-old Norwalk man made a right turn from Byram Road onto West Putnam when the nun entered the roadway from the grassy median on the north side of the road. Police say the truck was moving at a relatively low speed. Sulit was severely injured and initially cared for by the truck's driver and witnesses.

She was pronounced dead at Greenwich Hospital.
