What's Happening in Greenwich This Weekend

GREENWICH, Conn. — Earth Day Month events like a tree party, kite flying festival and open house at the Mianus Fishway highlight the weekend in and around Greenwich. There's also a pet safety discussion and two concerts. 

Friday, April 13

• 6-8 p.m: The Greenwich Arts Council holds the opening reception at "Charlie Hewitt: Sculptures and Prints" at the Bendheim Gallery; call 203-862-6750 for more information.

• 6:30-8:30 p.m: Greenwich Tree Conservancy’s Tree Party at McArdle’s Garden Center, 48 Arch St., Greenwich.

Saturday, April 14

• 11 a.m: Get out your kites for the Greenwich Arts Council’s “Go Fly a Kite” festival at Greenwich Point. Rain date is Sunday at noon. Call 203-862-6750 for more information.

• 2-3:30 p.m: Lecture on “Natural Communities of New England” with Ted Elliman of the New England Wildflower Society at Audubon Greenwich. The lecture will highlight the many plant associations of our region’s upland and wetland habitats, forest communities and coastal habitats. Call Jeff Cordulack at 203-866-5272 for more information.

• 3-5 p.m: Fishway Open House sponsored by the Greenwich Conservation Commission at 125 River Road Extension, Cos Cob. • 8 p.m: Pianist Alexandre Moutouzkine performs with the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra at the Greenwich High School Auditorium. Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for students; call 203-869-2664 for more information.

Sunday, April 15

• 2-4 p.m: Veterinarian Marcus Suppo and other animal care experts will share tips on how to protect your pet in the event of an emergency, at the Greenwich Historical Society, 39 Strickland Road. Admission is $15 for nonmembers, $10 for members. Call 203-869-6899 for more information.

• 3-5 p.m: Palladium Musicum presents “Festival Concert for Organ With Flute” at St. Bede’s Chapel, 270 Lake Ave., Greenwich. Tickets are $65 for general admission and $35 for organists. Call 203-661-6856 for more information.
