What's Happening Around Greenwich This Weekend

GREENWICH, Conn. – Fireworks displays, a butterfly count and the final performances of Shakespeare on the Sound are some of the events planned for the weekend.

Friday, July 6

Bruce Museum Docent-led Exhibition Tours: 12:30 p.m. Tours last approximately one hour and are free with museum admission, $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and students. Bruce Museum is located at 1 Museum Drive.

Greenwich Libraries Close at 5 p.m.

Shakespeare on the Sound “Romeo and Juliet": 7:30 p.m. Performances continue through July 8. Blankets can be placed in the park beginning at 4 p.m. Picnics are welcome. Admission is free. Roger Sherman Baldwin Park, 100 Arch St.

Saturday, July 7

North American Butterfly Count: 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Start with an introduction to local butterflies and learn how to count scientifically from 10:30 to 11 a.m., then head out on the Audubon Center grounds to view its butterfly gardens and conduct a count. Admission is free. RSVP at (203) 869-5272, ext. 230. For ages 7 and up. Audubon Greenwich is located at 613 Riversville Road.  

Shakespeare on the Sound “Romeo and Juliet": 7:30 p.m. Performances continue through July 8. Blankets can be placed in the park beginning at 4 p.m. Picnics are welcome. Admission is free. Roger Sherman Baldwin Park, 100 Arch St.

Fireworks at Greenwich Point: 7 p.m. A DJ will be stationed near the South Concession area beginning at 7 p.m. to provide music for the evening. The display will be fired from the corner of Greenwich Point at Bluff Point. The Point will be closed when the parking spaces are filled, and the rules for access will be the same as usual. At 8:30 p.m. the Point will be closed to all traffic and will close immediately after the fireworks. Spectators are urged to car pool, plan ahead and be patient. Town safety personnel and police will be on hand to provide medical coverage and direct traffic. Greenwich Point is located at the end of Tod’s Driftway in Old Greenwich.

Fireworks at Binney Park: 7:30 p.m. Sound Beach Community Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. on the Showmobile near the flag pole beside Sound Beach Avenue to be immediately followed by fireworks at dusk. Grills, cooking and open fires are prohibited at the park. Binney Park is located on Sound Beach Avenue in Old Greenwich. 

Sunday, July 8

Shakespeare on the Sound “Romeo and Juliet": 7:30 p.m. Final performance. Blankets can be placed in the park beginning at 4 p.m. Picnics are welcome. Admission is free. Roger Sherman Baldwin Park, 100 Arch St.
