Vincent Ambrose Sr., Greenwich Police Officer

Greenwich resident, Vincent J. Ambrose, Sr., died on Feb. 19. He was 81.

Ambrose was born in town and graduated from Greenwich High School. In 1947, he was on the state championship Greenwich High School football team. Ambrose enlisted in the in U.S. Army in 1952. Ambrose was stationed in France as part of the military police and received the National Defense Service Medal. After returning home, he joined the Greenwich Police Department in 1956 and ended his career as detective sergeant. He was also a member of the International Narcotics Law Enforcement Association. During his spare time, Ambrose enjoyed playing the accordion and golf. He also coached baseball in town for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa Chickanis Ambrose; children Bonnie Ambrose, Barbara Ambrogio, Vincent J. Ambrose and John Ambrose; and four grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Feb. 25 at St. Mary's Church. Burial will be private. Memorial donations can be made to Richard L.
