Two Arrested in Major Greenwich Burglary Spree

GREENWICH, Conn. – Two men were arrested by warrant on multiple burglary and larceny charges after an investigation into a string of residential burglaries in Greenwich and around the state last year.

The Greenwich Police Department teamed with more than a dozen state, federal and municipal jurisdictions to find the suspects in a string of residential burglaries up and down the coastline. In November, Greenwich investigators and East Lyme police developed two suspects: Mark Missino, 44, of 92 Shore Road, Waterford, and Bernard McAllister, 40, of 13 Nora St., Lisbon.

On Nov. 13, Greenwich police responded to a residential burglary that matched the characteristics of 10 earlier burglaries in Greenwich, as well as those in the statewide spree that began in January 2010. East Lyme police located Missino and McAllister at a self-storage facility in East Lyme with items stolen from throughout the state.

“The investigation is one of the largest and most complex crime sprees the Greenwich Police Department has investigated,” a statement said. Greenwich detectives and several other agencies inventoried and documented nearly 10,000 stolen articles recovered from the storage unit.

In the 10 burglaries and one attempted burglary in Greenwich from January to November 2010, victims suffered about $190,000 in property damage and $376,000 of total burglary losses, police said.

Missino and McAllister were arrested on seven counts of burglary, four counts of conspiracy at burglary, seven counts of larceny, and five counts of criminal mischief. McAllister and Missino have also been arrested in Glastonbury, Madison, New Canaan, Stamford and Wallingford as well as by the Connecticut State Police in the spree. Missino also was arrested by North Branford police.

Each was held by the state Department of Correction on $750,000 bond from the Greenwich Police Department.
