As the heat wave continues to make Greenwich and the rest of the northeast sweat, water supplies in town and the region have dwindled.
First Selectman Peter Tesei is asking Greenwich residents to reduce water usage following a request made by Aquarion Water Company on Wednesday. The town and Aquarion are urging people to limit their main water usage. This means cutting back on watering lawns to every other day and not running the faucet for extended periods and taking long showers. "High demand can lead to reduced pressure, which may affect water service to residents," said Tesei. "More importantly, [it] may have an impact on our fire hydrants."
During the heat wave, water usage in Greenwich spiked to more than 28 million gallons a day, although reservoir levels are at 80 percent and remain adequate.
