Town Grants Tax Deadline Extension

A computer glitch that caused property tax bills to be mailed late has prompted the town to grant a three-week extension for home and business owners to pay their taxes. Tod Laudonia, the tax collector, decided to push the payment deadline from Aug. 2 to Aug. 23. Tax bills are usually sent out the beginning of July but the delay caused by a malfunction with the tax software. The last one was mailed on July 23.

Laudonia said he understood that some people had had problems because of the late notice. He was not able to deal with case-by-case situations so the he need to give everyone a an extension, or no one would get extra time. After consulting the Law Department, Laudonia determined that he Connecticut General Statutes allow a 30-day grace period after the last bill has been mailed.
