The Greenwich Chamber of Commerce honored three public safety workers last week at the its 27th Award Ceremony. Police Officer Tommy Huestis, Paramedic Sherry Hoffman and Fire Lt. Christopher Moynahan were selected for services that have contributed to changing someones life or enhancing the towns quality of life.
Huestis was cited for his founding of and dedication to the Explorer Police Academy program for Greenwich youths. Huestis acted as basic drill and ceremonies instructor in 2007 and 2008, and under his direction, Greenwich Explorer Post won first place at the Northeast Regional Law Enforcement Education Conference for outstanding performance.
Hoffman, a paramedic with Greenwich Emergency Medical Services, was detailed to work with the Marine Division on June 26, 2010. At 11 p.m., the patrol boat was dispatched to an accident in Stamford Harbor where a man had run his boat into the breakwater at high speed. The man received serious injuries and was treated on the scene by Hoffman before being taken to Stamford Hospital. He eventually had a complete recovery.
Moynahan organized the Firefighters Local 1042 charity golf tournament, which has raised thousands of dollars over the years for charities such as the Connecticut Burn Center, Ronald McDonald House, the Firefighter Cancer Support Network and the Fairfield Pediatric Center. He also has taken a lead role in consolidating equipment and inventories for the department and ensuring that equipment repairs and service are reliable.
