Threat leads to lockdown at Greenwich High: Police and school officials acted quickly after a threat found written on the wall of a girls' bathroom stall at Greenwich High School. Police Lt. Kraig Gray said it gave a specific time and location, which led officials to put the school into a nearly four-hour lockdown. Scott Rusk, a senior, said he his fellow students thought it was just a drill when the siren first went off. After they were searched, students moved to the auditorium to wait while police searched every classroom.
Three arrests made in money-for-sex ring: Police and FBI arrested three men in a human-trafficking ring in which young males with mental health issues were delivered to wealthy clients throughout Connecticut for sex in exchange for money, Danbury Police said. The arrested men William Trefzger, 71, of Westport, and Bruce Bemer, 63, of Glastonbury, were charged with patronizing a trafficked person. Robert King of Danbury was charged with promoting prostitution and witness tampering.
Diner shot in the rear while reaching for wallet: A 56-year-old Bridgeport man dining at Tazza in Fairfield got more than he bargained for when he reached for his wallet — and shot himself in the buttocks, police said. The casing got stuck in the gun and the bullet lodged in the floor, police said. The other patrons didn’t seem to notice that the gun had gone off.
New wheels for student at Fairfield University: Meg Moore, a sophomore at Fairfield University who has cerebral palsy, got the gift of a lifetime. Campus public safety brought her a new state-of-the-art wheelchair to replace the one she has been holding together with duct tape for about a year now.
Big day for Bedford Square: Westport celebrated the first store and restaurant opened at Bedford Square, the huge downtown development project that renovated and replaced the old family YMCA. Amis Trattoria and Anthropologie took over the familiar front-and-center spot as anchors.
Bowled over: Chef/Owner Jamieson Van Loan was inspired by Costa Rica to create Maikana Foods, a healthy "power bowl" food delivery service. It offers an ever-changing menu and is looking to expand through much of lower Fairfield County.
Leggings for Limbs: Natalee Brenner, valedictorian at Henry Abbott Technical High School in Danbury, was born with just two fingers on her right hand. She created a fundraiser to help Shriners Hospitals for Children, where she went for treatment as a youngster. She raised $500 in just two days by charging students and staff at the school $2 to be allowed to wear leggings, joggers or sweatpants to class in instead of the school uniform.
