Thomas Higgins, Greenwich Native

Thomas “Tom” Higgins, of Sanford, Maine, died last Saturday while playing football with his children. He suffered a massive heart attack. He was 48.

Born in Greenwich on June 14, 1962, Higgins was the second child of Garry and Margaret Higgins and spent his childhood in Greenwich. He attended the University of Maine in Orono, where he met his wife of 22 years. While in Maine, he painted and constructed sets for the Maine Stage Co. With his family by his side, Higgins enjoyed acting, baseball, cooking and going to church. He was a member of St. George’s Episcopal Church in Sanford.

Higgins is survived by his wife, Marlene; three children David, Carolyn and Lily; and his parents, who live in Greenwich, as well as his brother and sister and their families.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. George’s Episcopal Church, at 3 Emerson St. in Sanford. Memorial donations can be made to the Higgins Scholarship Fund, which aids children’s college educations.
