First Selectman Peter Tesei recently toured Riverside to meet with residents and discuss issues they are facing. The three-hour journey looked at each school and at traffic hot spots to see how they can be improved and incorporated into the budgeting process. "Most of the issues surrounding the neighborhoods involve pedestrian safety, condition of sidewalks and traffic signage," he said. "Things that will make the community safer."
Congestion on Riverside Avenue, Palmer Hill Road and Neil Lane was one of residents' main concerns. Another was traffic in and around Riverside School during pick-up and drop-off hours.
"The sentiments will be part of a report that will be given to the department heads to see if some of these things can be fixed with existing resources," said Tesei, "or if they need to be included in the capital budget for next year."
Neighborhood discussions are critical with budget season approaching. Dustin Anderson, executive assistant to the first selectman, said speaking with the community gives Tesei a detailed sense of the hot-button issues.
