Barbara Heins will oversee the administration of Tesei’s office starting March 28. She will also grow the town’s social media platform and communications program, according to a statement from Tesei.

Tesei said Heins will make a valuable addition to his staff. “As a longtime Greenwich resident and journalist, Barbara possesses a wealth of experience, institutional knowledge and familiarity with the town’s governmental processes and diverse neighborhoods,” he said.

An experienced editor with 35 years of experience as a journalist and public relations consultant, Heins most recently worked for Patch. She founded the company’s Greenwich site, which she managed along with eight other sites for the past five years.

Before joining Patch, Heins served as a night city editor and assignments editor of the Stamford Advocate. She received two nominations for a Pulitzer Prize and garnered numerous awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, the Associated Press Media Editors Association and The Society of Silurians.

Heins has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from St. Bonaventure University and an associate’s degree in liberal arts from Hudson Valley Community College.

Tesei’s office conducted a national search for the executive assistant position, which garnered 31 applications. Heins was the top finalist of five candidates who were interviewed.
