According to the Connecticut Department of Transportation, the following construction work will affect pedestrian access at the Old Greenwich train station:

  • The east side staircases to the New Haven side of the tracks from Sound Beach Avenue will remain closed for the next six months for demolition of the old stairs and reconstruction of the new stairs.
  • The east side sidewalk along Sound Beach Avenue will be closed starting Wednesday and remain closed for six months.
Night operations on Sound Beach Avenue Bridge and Tomac Avenue Bridge will continue until further notice:
  • Work on both bridges will continue April 10 through April 16 for demolition and concrete work on both bridges.
  • Road closures and alternating lane closures may be implemented from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Traffic control devices and personnel will be stationed in the area.

Daytime operations will include:

  • Work on both Tomac Avenue and Sound Beach Avenue
  • Work on the reconstruction of the two previously demolished east side staircases from Sound Beach Avenue.
  • Periodic alternating traffic patterns at either location between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. with traffic personnel on hand as needed.

On Sound Beach Avenue, the bridge will be demolished and a new one constructed. The new bridge will eliminate the concrete/steel pier from the center of Sound Beach Avenue. The southbound left-turn lane into the south parking lot will be lengthened, and the sidewalks will be replaced. The wooden stairways to the platforms from Sound Beach Avenue will be replaced with new concrete stairs.

On Tomac Avenue, the bridge will also be demolished and a new bridge constructed.

At the train station, platforms will be extended from the six-car length to accommodate 10-car passenger loading. Upgrades to the platforms include new energy-efficient lighting, three enclosed shelters, 27 benches, six trash/recycling receptacles, and new concrete staircases and railings.

At the South Commuter Parking Lot, the upper and lower parking lots will be expanded from 99 spaces to 220 spaces. Work includes a retaining wall, energy-efficient lighting and eco-friendly drainage, repaving of both parking lots, and new landscaping.
