RTM Approves Firefighters' Contract

The Representative Town Meeting voted overwhelmingly Monday night to ratify a new three-year contract for Greenwich Firefighters Local 1042 by a 171-5 vote, according to published reports. Early negotiations stalemated after the town proposed a wage freeze in the first year, followed by a 2 percent wage raise each year for the next two years. The union wanted a 2 percent raise in the first year and then 3 percent raises in the other two years of the contract, according to published reports.

The contract, set retroactively for July 1, 2010 guarantees the firefighters a 3 percent raise for the 2010/2011 fiscal year and a 2 percent raise in the next year.
