The Greenwich Chapter of the Red Cross has put out an urgent call for Type O negative and Type A positive blood.

"In the summer, we are so short of blood and anyone who donates can save up to three lives," said Andrew Sindell, director of community services for the Greenwich Red Cross branch

"People can get the satisfaction of helping others and all of the blood stays and helps peoples people in Conn."

Type O negative blood can be given to anyone and is commonly used in emergencies.

The American Red Cross is holding a blood drive Saturday at the Hyatt Regency in Greenwich from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. According to Sindell, anyone who is in good health and over the age of 17 can donate. Everyone who gives in August a chance to win an Acer netbook. One netbook will be given away each week.

The Greenwich Red Cross is urging residents to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. Call 1-800-RED-CROSS or go to the Red Cross website.
