Power Outages Delay Greenwich Schools

The start of Greenwich's public and private schools — including Convent of the Sacred Heart, Brunswick, Stanwich, Greenwich Academy and Greenwich Catholic schools — was delayed one hour Thursday morning because of power failures after a severe thunderstorms Wednesday night.

The nursery school at First Presbyterian Church of Greenwich has delayed the start until 10 a.m. Thursday.

Trees and power lines were reported down in town, according to published and televised reports.

Power outages reported at 7:30 a.m. by Connecticut Light & Power include in Greenwich, 1,000 customers; Stamford, 59; Darien, 1; Westport, 19; and Norwalk, 4.

Greenwich firefighters Wednesday night closed an area on Neighborly Way in Mianus because of tree and utility line damage. Also, Greenwich firefighters were called to inspect Cos Cob School after it was reportedly hit by a lighting strike from the storm that quickly swept across the area.
