Police: Greenwich Woman's Injuries Self-Inflicted

GREENWICH, Conn. – A Greenwich woman who claimed she had been assaulted when she was found bleeding at the end of her driveway Sunday night inflicted the injuries herself, police said.

The woman, who lives at 235 Milbank Ave., had cuts to both an arm and a leg, according to Lt. Kraig Gray, spokesman for the Greenwich Police Department. Early reports indicated she had been stabbed. Police cordoned off and searched the area but found no one.

The search spread, and an alleged assailant was quickly located on Island Beach. However, Greenwich marine officers confirmed that a suspect had been on the beach both before and during the time of the alleged assault.

“Continued investigation by both detectives and medical professionals revealed that the injuries were not caused by a second party but were actually self-inflicted,” said Gray.

The woman has been committed to Stamford Hospital.
