GREENWICH, Conn. -- The Rev. Matthew Mauriello has stepped down from his position as the leader of St. Roch Church in Greenwich to spend more time working within the diocese without the burden of administrative work. Dioceses officials said he leaves the position in good standing, according to Greenwich Time.

Mauriello, who has been pastor of the church for seven years, added he needed to take better care of himself, and church officials said conflicts with some parishioners and staff were the reason he decided to change roles, said Greenwich Time.

A new pastor is expected to be assigned later in the spring. Until then, Msgr. Tom Powers, who serves as the diocese’s vicar general, will take over the leadership position, and other priests will help with daily Mass, added Greenwich Time.
