Parking Limits Voted For Prospect St.

Non-residents will no longer be allowed to park on Prospect Street on weekdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Board of Selectmen voted Thursday to make Prospect a permanent residential parking zone in order relieve congestion caused by commercial vehicles, taxis, dealerships and other non-residents.

The move followed a 90-day pilot program requested by town parking director Allen Corry during which vehicles without parking decals were tagged.

Corry had previously written to the selectmen citing an "unsafe quality of life, environment, [and] poor air quality" on Prospect due to non-resident parking.

Prospect was patrolled during the 90-day pilot trial to assess the parking situation. Corry said a majority of residents' comments were positive and that they favored continuing the restrictions.

The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to designate Prospect Street an area of permanent residential parking. Current decals will be valid until Dec. 31. Renewal applications for 2011 decals will be sent to current decal holders for an annual administrative fee of $10 per registered vehicle. Two visitor passes will be issued at no cost.
