Greenwich plans to hire park rangers this month to patrol Island Beach Park after complaints about raucous behavior by non residents.
The town is still working out the number of park rangers, what their role will be on Island Beach as well as their compensation, despite the municipal finance board's order not to create any new positions.
According to parks director Joseph Siciliano, the rangers will be seasonal employees and will patrol only Island Beach Park.
"I think it's important how these people are viewed that they are town employees and that they have the appropriate training and backup by town managers and the police department to guide residents and nonresidents through the process," Siciliano was quoted as saying in published reports.
Adding park rangers to Island Beach is just the latest step to addressing complaints this summer from Greenwich residents about rowdy behavior. Earlier in the summer, the town cut capacity on Island Beach at peak times by 20 percent and reduced the capacity of the ferry to the island to by 4,000.
