GREENWICH, Conn. Edward G. Philipp, the current head of the Rye YMCA in New York, has been named the new chief executive officer of the Greenwich YMCA.
Ed has some terrific plans for how we grow our YMCA after the construction is completed this fall and how we best serve the town as a community center into the future, Jim Cabrera, chair of the Board of the Greenwich YMCA, said in a prepared statement.
Philipp has served as CEO of the Rye YMCA since 2003 and has also worked in the New Rochelle and Rockland County YMCAs.
As of August 20, Philipp brings 15 years of YMCA experience, having joined the movement right after graduating from Rutgers University, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in exercise science/sports management.
The opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the people the Y serves on a daily basis is what motivates me about this position, Philipp said in a prepared statement. The YMCA has been an integral part of the Greenwich Community for 96 years. I am looking forward to the exciting challenge of strengthening the Greenwich Y and its brand and working with the board, staff and volunteers to increase the Ys impact in the community.
Philipp was recently honored as a Rising Star in Westchesters 40 under 40 Class of 2012 and has been recognized three times with a leadership award from the Association of YMCA Professionals Chapter 2, serving as both chapter president and as a committee member of the AYP Albany Conference. He is a past president, and still an active member, of the Rye City Lions Club. He also holds numerous certifications within the YMCA and is now a faculty member for the YMCA Annual Community Support Campaign Course.
Charlie Leigh, who served as chief financial officer prior to serving as interim-CEO, said Philipp has a proven track record of growing the Rye YMCAs membership and developing programming integral to the community.
Ed Philipp is the right person at the right time to lead Greenwichs YMCA into the future, Leigh said in a press release. This is an exciting time for the YMCA, we have a lot of upward momentum.
Philipp lives in Norwalk with his wife Bridget , who is the senior director of health and wellness enhancement at the New Canaan YMCA, along with their two daughters.
