Many roads were partially closed throughout Greenwich Thursday following Wednesday evening's storms. Trees and wires were downed throughout a small northeast pocket of Greenwich. "The roads that are out are mainly residential and still require some clean up, but they should be fully up and running soon," said Lt. Kraig Gray, spokesman for the police department on Thursday morning.
The partial road closures due to a presumed microburst were reported at the intersection of Vineyard Lane and Fox Run Lane; 62 Londonderry Road; 505 and 540 Stanwich Road; 16 Tod Lane; 444 Farms Road; 306 and 239 Taconic Road; the intersection of Taconic Road and North Stanwich Road; and 32 Prospect S.
As reported in Greenwich Time, Daniel Warzoha, the town's emergency management director, said he believed a microburst hit Greenwich. According to the National Weather Service, a microburst typically affects a small area and most damage lines up in one direction from shearing winds.
"There was great thunderstorm damage yesterday, we did have a lot of straight line wind damage, strong gusts that move out of the thunderstorm," said Peter Wichrowski, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service. "It wouldn't be surprising that a microburst did hit the area."
