Marjorie Helen Teufel died May 7 at the age of 90.
Teufel was born in Port Chester, N.Y., and spent most of her younger years living in Byram. She attended New Lebanon School and graduated from Greenwich High School in 1938. Her parents owned the first diner in Greenwich, the Courtley Diner on Post Road. She met her husband, Bill, when she was 17 and he played third base for her dads sponsored team. After World War II, they reunited and married in 1946.
She worked in the 5 and 10 in Greenwich and the Putnam Trust Co.; sold Avon; and did all the bookkeeping for her husbands construction business. She and Bill spent their later years in Venice, Fla., with Greenwich friends. In her last seven years of life, she lived with her children.
Teufel was predeceased by her husband Bill and her parents Helen and George McKenzie. She is survived by her children Bill, Cathy and husband Tim, as well as Timothy Shawn and wife Valerie.
A Mass will be celebrated at St. Marys Church, 378 Greenwich Ave., on Saturday, May 14, at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Marys Cemetery, 399 North St. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Judes Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Town of Greenwich Recreation Department, Town Hall, 101 Field Point Road, Greenwich, CT 06830, to help with the maintenance of Pemberwick Field in Byram, where her family spent much of their recreation time.
