Man Charged With Credit Card Fraud in Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. – A Brooklyn, N.Y., man was arrested at Betteridge Jewelers on Greenwich Avenue Saturday when he tried to buy a Rolex watch using two fraudulent credit cards, police said.

Emeli Kwasi Attipoe, 32, of 730 New Jersey Ave., attempted to use two cards that would not process through to buy the $23,000 watch, police said. He gave an Illinois driver’s license, which police said was also fraudulent. Investigators in the state Financial Crimes Task Force said the security holograms on the cards were fake.

Attipoe was charged with interfering with an officer, criminal attempt at larceny, three counts of unlawful completion/reproduction of a credit card and four counts of forgery.

He was being held on a $50,000 bond and is due in court on Sept. 19.
