GREENWICH, Conn. Just 8 percent of all Connecticut Light & Power customers in town were without power as of Friday afternoon in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene, town officials said.
At 2 p.m. Thursday, 4,865 customers in Greenwich were without power. That number was down to 2,358 in town Friday. CL&P has deployed 22 power crews and 15 tree crews in Greenwich. It expects 99 percent of Greenwich power to be restored by 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
The towns Emergency Operation Center reported 381 roadway obstructions after Hurricane Irene hit the town Sunday. As of Friday, 10 roads remained partially blocked.
The remaining blocked or partially blocked roads include View Street, upper part of Lake Avenue, downtown Park Avenue, Butler Street, Field Road, Husted Lane, Lang Horn Lane, Walwyn Road, Sunset Road and Dublin Hill. Other minor road obstructions were being tracked and will be fixed, town officials said.
The town is asking residents to refrain from placing yard waste and storm debris in the right of way on streets. The town Public Works Department will not remove debris from private property.
The Holly Hill Transfer Station will remain open through Saturday from 7 a.m. through 5 p.m. to permit homeowners and contractors to dispose of yard waste created by the storm.
The Red Cross has prepared a cleanup kit for homeowners with damage. The kit may be picked up at its office at 99 Indian Field Road on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Red Cross may be contacted by calling 203-869-8444.
