Library Events, Tag Sale This Weekend in Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. - Hey Greenwich, are you looking for something fun to do this weekend? Check out some of the family-friendly events coming up:

Friday, Feb. 17

• 10:30 a.m. – A school vacation workshop is offered for kids in grades 1-3 to explore the exhibition “Coming Full Circle: The Greenwich Art Society Celebrates 100 at the Bruce Museum,” at 1 Museum Drive in Greenwich. Cost is $5 for members, $7 for nonmembers. Reservations are required by calling 203-869-0376.

• 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. – Free exhibit tours are offered with price of admission at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich. Call 203-869-6786 for more information.

• 6 to 9 p.m. – Middle school members of the Boys & Girls Club can swim, participate in game room tournaments and play dodge ball on Fridays at the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich. Call 203-869-3224 for more information.

• 8 p.m. – Friends Friday Films at Greenwich Library presents “127 Hours” directed by Danny Boyle and starring James Franco, Lizzy Caplan and Kate Mara. It is based on the true story of mountain climber Aron Ralston’s adventure to save himself after a fallen boulder crashes on his arm and traps him in an isolated canyon in Utah. Free. Doors open at 7:40 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 18

• All day – Design a bookmark for the Greenwich Library, Cos Cob Library or Byram Shubert Library and enter the Love Your Library Bookmark Contest through Saturday. Entry forms and paper can be picked up at each location.

• 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. - Tag sale at 80 Laddins Rock Road in Old Greenwich. Free.

• 9:30 a.m. – YWCA Greenwich offers charcoal sketching and pastel class with Jo Ann O’Hara at the Gertrude White Gallery for children ages 5 and up. Registration is ongoing. Call 203-869-6501 for more information.

• 2 p.m. – Cos Cob resident Bill Cameron will discuss “The Great Medicine Era” and antique patent medicine bottles at Greenwich Library Meeting Room. Call 203-622-7900 for more information.

Sunday, Feb. 19

• 9 a.m. to noon – Walkers, joggers and cyclists and enjoy open roads at Greenwich Point through the Friends of Greenwich Point’s “Safe Roads Program.”

• Noon - Join the Greenwich Arts Council for a Capoeira class with instructor Zumbi at the council’s headquarters at 299 Greenwich Ave. Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art, disguised as dance. Fee is $5.

• 3 to 5 p.m. – Hear poets read some of their work, answer questions and speak informally about poetry at the open mic and poetry reading at Arcadia Café. Held every Sunday. Call 203-637-8766 for more information.

• 3 p.m. – Yale Classical Guitarists Concert Series continues at Diamond Hill United Methodist Church. Held every Sunday. It is free with a donation of $10 to $15. Call 203-869-2395 for more information.
