Greenwich resident Joseph C. Mendel died of prostate cancer March 6. He was 70 years old.
Mendel was born in Atlanta. He graduated with a degree in engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 1963 and earned a masters from Harvard University in 1969. During the 1970s, Mendel worked for the White House. He was later appointed to the management advisory committee of the U.S. Department of Commerce by President George H.W. Bush. He also served as a partner with Booz Allen & Hamilton, a management consultant firm, later becoming chief financial officer at International Technology Corp., managing director at Merrill Lynch & Company and chairman and chief executive officer of Site-Blauvelt Engineers Inc.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Elizabeth Browne Mendel; a daughter, Ashley Mendel Fox; two sisters, Gayle Mendel Peters and Kathleen Mendel Moore, and twin grandchildren. A funeral service was held on March 11 at the Church of St. Thomas More in Manhattan.
