John H. Christopherson of Greenwich, a retired bank executive, died of cancer on March 9. He was 78 years old.
Christopherson was born in Scarborough, England. He attended St. Andrew's College in Aurora, Canada, and Kind Edward VII Nautical School in London. At age 16 Christopherson became a cadet officer with Hains Steamship Company, where he spent 18 months training to be a deck officer. In 1951, he joined the Royal Air Force and served as a fighter pilot with the 56th Fighter Squadron.
Christopherson worked for 41 years in banking and was a chief currency trader for a number of banks, including Continental Bank in New York, the Bank of New York and Chemical Bank in New York. He retired in 1994.
Christopherson was a member of the Indian Harbor Yacht Club for over 30 years. He attended annual regattas and served on a number of executive committees. Christopherson also frequented the Tuesday Lunch Bunch.
He and his wife, Marguerite, were married for 56 years. Survivors include two children, Sue and Peter. His daughter Anne died in 1965 at the age of 10. Friends and family may call at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home in Greenwich on Friday, March 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
