GREENWICH, Conn.- To continue assisting low-income older residents, the Greenwich Department of Social Services' has awarded a $5,000 grant to the Jewish Family Service for a new program, according to a press release.
Based on a grant from the United Way of Western Connecticut for Stamford residents, the new funds establish the Employment Readiness Education Center of Greenwich. It's intended to empower limited income individuals who are at least 45 years old with the skills and resources needed to find work. The grant will help cover various expenses, including training and training materials.
"If someone comes in needing a job, we asses what they've done, their income and age," said Ilene Locker, director of employment and training at Jewish Family Service. "Some people might not be able to afford a computer to look for work or know how to use modern social media."
Services include job search skills training, basic job readiness, referrals to prospective employers and more. Training in proper attire, etiquette and nutrition are integrated when appropriate. Jewish Family Service is a non-sectarian agency and offers services to anyone who meets their requirements.
Jewish Family Service has been providing employment training for more than 15 years, and the grant allows the organization to provide more intensive quality service to those who might fall through the cracks, according to the release.
"We're delighted to be a partner with Greenwich," Locker said.
